Perhaps the “newness” of the New Year has worn off, the cold of winter is still biting and you may feel lacking in energy and motivation. But your New Year resolutions still need your action, your team needs your leadership and there are daily tasks and responsibilities to be carried out.
“Time waits for no-one”
At times like these I turn to quotations, which provide a quick “shot in the arm” that inspire me and keep me on track and focused. Here are 10 of my (numerous) favourites:
1. “Things that matter most must never be at the mercy of things that matter least” – Van Goethe
2. “The only thing that stands between a person and what they want from life is often the will to try it and the faith to believe it’s possible.” – Rich Devos
3. “Kites rise highest against the wind…not with it.” – Winston Churchill
4. “The man on top of the mountain didn’t fall there.” – Anonymous
5. “Courage is the door that can only be opened from the inside.” – Terry Neil
6. “To get what we’ve never had, we must do what we’ve never done.” – Anonymous
7. “It is a funny thing about life: if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.” –Somerset Maugham
8. “In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins…not through strength but by perseverance.” – H. Jackson Brown
9. “EXCUSES are the nails used to build a house of failure.” – Don Wilder
10. “It is one of the greatest compensations in life that no one can help another without helping themselves.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Thanks for sharing your inspiring quotes Marguerite. I save quotes when I find them to be inspiring (I too have LOTS and I share each of them with friends when I feel that they need a boost in their day). I went back to school five years ago at age 55, and quotes have kept me motivated. I am an online student so self-motivation is the key to my success. The main quote that has kept me focused is “Push yourself because no one else will”. I have not been able to determine who is the author of this great quote, so s/he remains anonymous, but I am forever grateful for finding it during this important time of my life when it was most needed.
Thank you Eve. And congrats on being bold and knowing that age is no limit. You are an inspiration. Love your quote – just highlights that you, and only you, are in charge of your life. Share some more!!

You are so welcome Marguerite. Thank you, coming from you, your words are even more appreciated. Of course I am happy to share a few more. I do not know the author of many of these quotes, but their words inspire me. I hope you don’t mind as I thought I would match your number of quotes:-) Thanks for allowing me to share.

4) “If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you” – author unknown
5) “Take risks: if you win, you will be happy. If you lose, you will be wise” – author unknown
6) “The way people treat you, is a statement about who they are as a human being. It is not a statement about you” – author unknown
7) “Some people will talk to you in their free time, and some will free their time to talk to you. Learn the difference” – author unknown
8) “F.E.A.R. has two meanings – Forget Everything and Run, or Face Everything And Rise. The choice is yours” – author unknown

WOW Eve! Thank you so much for these. I know a few of them, but some are brand new to me. Very, very powerful. Your #6 is in line with my lifeline quote – the one that keeps me sane and joyful when I am being hammered by others – “What people say about me is not my business”
Thanks again! You have inspired me to post more quotes throughout the year.

Marguerite
You are quite welcome Marguerite. I have embraced and live by the five (previously four) agreements suggested by Don Miguel Ruiz (see below – I’m sharing yet again:-)). Please do post more quotes. I look forward to reading them. Thanks again for the opportunity to share! Blessings!
The Five Agreements – Don Miguel Ruiz’s Code for Life
agreement 1
Be impeccable with your word – Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
agreement 2
Don’t take anything personally – Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.
agreement 3
Don’t make assumptions – Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
agreement 4
Always do your best – Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.
agreement 5
Be skeptical, but learn to listen – Don’t believe yourself or anybody else. Use the power of doubt to question everything you hear: Is it really the truth? Listen to the intent behind the words, and you will understand the real message.
I love them all. The one that speaks to me the most is.
“Things that matter most must never be at the mercy of things that matter least”.
